Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) pressed heavy purchases on Tuesday, 19 May 2009 as they bought shares worth a net Rs 5044.80 crore. FIIs have been on a buying spree this month as they remained net buyers in 12 out of 13 trading sessions.
FII inflow of Rs 5044.80 crore on 19 May 2009 was a result of gross purchases Rs 12578.90 crore and gross sales Rs 7534.10 crore. The BSE 30-share Sensex rose 17.82 points or 0.12% to 14,302.03 its highest closing since 11 September 2009 on that day.
FII inflow in May 2009 totaled Rs 15368.80 crore (till 19 May 2009) while their inflow in calendar year 2009 totaled Rs 15725.30 crore.
There are a total of 1654 foreign funds registered with the Securities & Exchange Board of India (Sebi).
