Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) bought shares worth a net Rs 16357.75 crore yesterday, 21 April 2015, compared with their outflow of Rs 1422.23 crore during the preceding trading session on 20 April 2015.
The net inflow of Rs 16357.75 crore on 21 April 2015 was a result of gross purchases of Rs 21344.04 crore and gross sales of Rs 4986.29 crore. There was a net inflow of Rs 16268.61 crore into the secondary equity market on 21 April 2015, which was a result of gross purchases of Rs 21254.90 crore and gross sales of Rs 4986.29 crore. The massive buying reflects their purchases of shares of a single company viz. Sun Pharmaceutical Industries. It may be recalled that Japan's Daiichi Sankyo Company sold a total of 21.49 crore shares valued at more than Rs 20000 crore of Sun Pharma through block deals yesterday, 21 April 2015.
There was an inflow of Rs 89.14 crore into the category 'primary market & others' on 21 April 2015.
FPIs have bought shares worth a net Rs 17253.93 crore in this month so far (till 21 April 2015). They have bought shares worth a net Rs 17092.53 crore from the secondary equity markets in this month so far (till 21 April 2015). FPIs had bought shares worth a net Rs 12078.12 crore last month. They had bought shares worth a net Rs 10155.09 crore from the secondary markets last month.
FPIs have bought shares worth a net Rs 53726.55 crore in calendar year 2015 so far (till 21 April 2015). They have bought shares worth a net Rs 45856.50 crore from the secondary equity markets in calendar year 2015 so far (till 21 April 2015). FPIs had bought shares worth a net Rs 97055.90 crore in the calendar year 2014. They had bought shares worth a net Rs 84440.80 crore from the secondary equity markets in calendar year 2014.
