Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) sold shares worth a net Rs 872.10 crore on Wednesday, 19 August 2009, as against an inflow of Rs 4.60 crore on Tuesday, 18 August 2009.
FII outflow of Rs 872.10 crore on 19 August 2009 was a results of gross purchases Rs 2288.70 crore and gross sales Rs 3160.80 crore. The BSE Sensex lost 225.62 points or 1.5% at 14,809.64 on that day.
FII outflow in August 2009 totaled Rs 396.30 crore (till 19 August 2009). Foreign funds had bought equities worth Rs 11,625.20 crore in July 2009. FII inflow in calendar year 2009 totaled Rs 35,773.40 crore (till 19 August 2009).
There are a total of 1684 foreign funds registered with the Securities & Exchange Board of India (Sebi).
