Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) sold shares worth a net Rs 973.80 crore on Monday, 17 August 2009, as against an inflow of Rs 1030.70 crore on Friday, 14 August 2009.
FII outflow of Rs 973.80 crore on 17 August 2009 was a results of gross purchases Rs 1766.40 crore and gross sales Rs 2740.20 crore. The BSE Sensex tumbled 626.71 points or 4.07% at 14,784.92 on that day.
FII inflow in August 2009 totaled Rs 471.20 crore (till 17 August 2009). Foreign funds had bought equities worth Rs 11,625.20 crore in July 2009. FII inflow in calendar year 2009 totaled Rs 36,640.90 crore (till 17 August 2009).
There are a total of 1682 foreign funds registered with the Securities & Exchange Board of India (Sebi).
