Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) bought shares worth a net Rs 848.70 crore on Monday, 24 August 2009, much higher than Rs 546.20 crore on Friday, 21 August 2009.
FII inflow of Rs 848.70 crore on 24 August 2009 was a results of gross purchases Rs 2543.90 crore and gross sales Rs 1695.20 crore. The BSE Sensex surged 387.92 points or 2.55% to 15,628.75 on that day.
FII inflow in August 2009 totaled Rs 697.20 crore (till 24 August 2009). Foreign funds had bought equities worth Rs 11,625.20 crore in July 2009. FII inflow in calendar year 2009 totaled Rs 36,866.90 crore (till 24 August 2009).
There are a total of 1687 foreign funds registered with the Securities & Exchange Board of India (Sebi).
