Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) bought shares worth a net Rs 546.20 crore on Friday, 21 August 2009, as against an outflow of Rs 301.30 crore on Thursday, 20 August 2009.
FII inflow of Rs 546.20 crore on 21 August 2009 was a results of gross purchases Rs 2413.20 crore and gross sales Rs 1867 crore. The BSE Sensex gained 228.51 points or 1.52% to 15,240.83 on that day.
FII outflow in August 2009 totaled Rs 151.50 crore (till 21 August 2009). Foreign funds had bought equities worth Rs 11,625.20 crore in July 2009. FII inflow in calendar year 2009 totaled Rs 36,018.20 crore (till 21 August 2009).
There are a total of 1685 foreign funds registered with the Securities & Exchange Board of India (Sebi).
