Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) bought shares worth a net Rs 709.90 crore on Thursday, 23 July 2009, much higher than Rs 145.50 crore on Wednesday, 22 July 2009.
FII inflow of Rs 709.90 crore on 23 July 2009 was a result of gross purchases Rs 5307 crore and gross sales Rs 4597.10 crore. The BSE Sensex surged 387.92 points or 2.61% to 15,231.04 on that day.
FII inflow in July 2009 totaled Rs 7,279.50 crore (till 23 July 2009). FIIs had bought stocks worth a net Rs 3,224.90 crore in June 2009. FII inflow in calendar year 2009 totaled Rs 31,823.70 crore (till 23 July 2009).
There are a total of 1684 foreign funds registered with the Securities & Exchange Board of India (Sebi).
