Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) sold shares worth a net Rs 216.50 crore on Wednesday, 21 May 2014, compared with net inflow of Rs 15.60 crore on Tuesday, 20 May 2014.
The net outflow of Rs 216.50 crore on Wednesday, 21 May 2014, was a result of gross purchases of Rs 5655.30 crore and gross sales of Rs 5871.70 crore. There was a net outflow of Rs 239.80 crore from the secondary equity market on Wednesday, 21 May 2014, which was a result of gross purchases of Rs 5631.20 crore and gross sales of Rs 5871 crore. The S&P BSE Sensex had lost 78.86 points or 0.32% to settle at 24,298.02 on that day, its lowest closing level since 16 May 2014.
There was a net inflow of Rs 23.40 crore into the category 'primary market & others' on Wednesday, 21 May 2014, which was a result of gross purchases of Rs 24.10 crore and gross sales of Rs 0.80 crore.
FIIs have bought shares worth a net Rs 14336.90 crore in this month so far (till 21 May 2014). FIIs purchased shares worth a net Rs 9602.40 crore in April 2014.
