His statement that the reforms are not an event but a process which will continue irrespective of the elections gives us confidence that the UPA Government, in the penultimate stage of its tenure, will surely make a last ditch but resolute effort to get some of the key reforms legislations like Direct Tax Code passed in the Budget session of Parliament, ASSOCHAM President, Mr Rana Kapoor said.
Besides, the ASSOCHAM cannot agree more with the Prime Minister's observation that the manufacturing sector could not generate the desired number of jobs. The reason for this was economic slowdown, coupled with lack of determined policies to give a great push to the manufacturing. SMEs hold the key to job creation, which should be encouraged. Let elections, as the Prime Minister has eloquently observed, should not deter the policies which can lead to higher growth, employment and reduced inflation, said Mr Kapoor.
