Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) sold shares worth a net Rs 237.50 crore on Monday, 5 October 2009, as against a huge inflow of Rs 1372.10 crore on Thursday, 1 October 2009.
FII outflow of Rs 237.50 crore on 5 October 2009 was a results of gross purchases Rs 3709.60 crore and gross sales Rs 3947.10 crore. The BSE Sensex fell 268.14 points or 1.56% to 16,866.41 on that day.
FII inflow in October 2009 totaled Rs 1134.60 crore (till 5 October 2009). Foreign funds had bought equities worth Rs 17,328 crore in September 2009. FII inflow in the calendar year 2009 totaled Rs 61,271.80 crore (till 5 October 2009).
There are a total of 1702 foreign funds registered with the Securities & Exchange Board of India (Sebi).
