The total value of mineral production (excluding atomic & minor minerals) in the country during October 2013 was Rs 16412 crore. The contribution of petroleum (crude) was the highest at Rs 5804 crore (35%). Next in the order of importance were: coal Rs 5130 crore, iron ore Rs 2088 crore, natural gas (utilized) Rs 1837 crore, limestone Rs 386 crore and lignite Rs 358 crore crore.
These six minerals together contributed about 95% of the total value of mineral production in October 2013.
Production level of important minerals in October 2013 were: coal 426 lakh tonnes, lignite 29 lakh tonnes, natural gas (utilized) 2870 million cubic meters, petroleum (crude) 32 lakh tonnes, bauxite 1216 thousand tonnes, chromite 155 thousand tonnes, copper conc. 12 thousand tonnes, gold 116 kg, iron ore 100 lakh tonnes, lead conc. 16 thousand tonnes, manganese ore 177 thousand tonnes, zinc conc. 137 thousand tonnes, apatite & phosphorite 160 thousand tonnes, dolomite 463 thousand tonnes, limestone 221 lakh tonnes, magnesite 14 thousand tonnes and diamond 2798 carat.
In October 2013 the output of lead conc. increased by 30.8%, zinc conc. 21.4%, apatite & phosphorite 17.4%, limestone 10.3%, coal 4.7%, petroleum (crude) 3.2%, and natural gas (utilized) 2.0%. However, the production of copper conc. decreased by 0.4%, gold 0.9%, bauxite 2.5%, magnesite 3.2%, dolomite 4.8%, iron ore 5.2%, diamond 6.8%, lignite 8.2%, chromite 8.7% and manganese ore 11.4%.
