AAUM at 4.14%

HDFC MF crosses Rs 1 lakh crore mark for the first time 

Mutual fund industry registered a rise of 4% in its Average Asset Under management (AAUM) in November 2009. The combined AAUM of the 36 fund houses (Sundaram BNP Paribas MF data is pending) in the industry rose 4.14% by Rs 31591.61 crore to Rs 7.94 lakh crore in November 2009 compared with Rs 7.62 lakh crore in October 2009, according to the data released by the Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI). AUM of funds of funds (FoFs) stood at Rs 953.79 crore in November 2009.

30 of the 36 mutual fund houses registered a rise in AUM in November 2009 over October 2009. There were 14 fund houses with AUM above Rs 10000 crore and all of them registered net inflow in November 2009 over the previous month. The top three funds witnessing a rise in the AUM included Axis Mutual Fund (81.97%), Bharti AXA Mutual Fund (66.95%), and Sahara Mutual Fund (55.91%).

Reliance Mutual Fund continued to be the largest fund house with Rs 122252.43 crore of corpus in November 2009 and recorded a rise of 4.68% in its AAUM. It registered net inflow of Rs 5470.51 crore in November 2009 over October 2009.

HDFC MF has become the second mutual fund in the country to cross an average asset under management of Rs one lakh crore. HDFC MF witnessed a surge of Rs 9,084 crore in its average assets under management (AAUM) taking its total assets to Rs 1,02,399.95 crore at the end of November.

ICICI Mutual Fund stood at third position with an AUM of Rs 82138.97 crore – a rise of 2% in November 2009 from October 2009. The public sector UTI Mutual Fund picked up the fourth position with posting AUM of Rs 79895.22 crore with net inflow of Rs 3047.88 crore in November 2009 over October 2009.

The other top mutual funds, in terms of AUM, were Birla Sun Life Mutual Fund (Rs 69631.941 crore), LIC Mutual Fund (Rs 48723.35 crore) and Kotak Mutual Fund (Rs 41137.97 crore) in November 2009.

HDFC Mutual Fund recorded the highest inflow of Rs 9083.91 crore in November 2009 followed by LIC Mutual Fund with a net inflow of Rs 6343.77 crore. However, JP Morgan Mutual Fund had registered highest outflow of Rs 431.37 crore.

Smaller players with AUM less than Rs 1000 crore comprised Quantum Mutual Fund (Rs 81.10 crore), Edelweiss Mutual fund (Rs 129.83 crore), Escorts Mutual Fund (Rs 205.11 crore).
