FIIs continue selling

Outflow of Rs 43.50 crore on 13 January 2010



Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) sold shares worth a net Rs 43.50 crore on Wednesday, 13 January 2010, much lower than Rs 261.90 crore on Tuesday, 12 January 2010.

FII outflow of Rs 43.50 crore on 13 January 2010 was a result of gross purchases Rs 3622 crore and gross sales Rs 3665.50 crore. The secondary equity market sales totaled Rs 118.80 crore, which was a result of gross purchases Rs 3546.30 crore and gross sales Rs 3665.10 crore. The BSE Sensex rose 87.29 points or 0.50% to 17,509.80 on that day.

There was an inflow of Rs 75.30 crore in the category 'primary market & others', which was a result of gross purchases Rs 75.70 crore and gross sales Rs 0.40 crore.

FII inflow in January 2010 totaled Rs 8328.10 crore (till 13 January 2010). FII had bought equities worth Rs 11,067.20 crore in December 2009. FII inflow in the calendar year 2009 was Rs 84,258 crore.

There are a total of 1,707 foreign funds registered with the Securities & Exchange Board of India (Sebi).
